"Embassy Row" generally refers to a stretch of Massachusetts Av. extending from Dupont Circle to the National Cathedral. 

Most of the foreign countries have a diplomatic representation here. Diplomacy happens here today, but this was not always the case. Millioniaire were the 1st ones to develop these parcels heading West from Dupont Circle. During the guilded age, owning a mansion here meant prestige and it was important to "show off".
